The Market Place Foodstore

Hate. Haate. HAAAATTTEEE!!! I hate this place! 'Ramshackle' is the perfect word for this decrepit, over-priced, ridiculously-managed, under-stocked clap trap of a grocery store. I didn't realize the horror that awaited me the day that Dominicks on Broadway burned to the ground.

[Sidebar: how shady is it that there's NO Dominick's in Lakeview? Does that even make sense? Chicago.]

In spite of having aisles that are ALWAYS under construction and full of crap (impossible to navigate), they only have two selections from which to choose: "Jack" and "Shit." And both are dirty. Seriously, this place is filthy. Whenever I am in there, I half expect to be hit in the head by some random, flying chicken. The floors are never mopped and always disgusting. I think a dirt floor would be cleaner. And forget about asking for assistance. The teenagers won't pay you any mind and the non-teens all pretend to not speak English. I have started DRIVING to the Dominicks around Division and Orleans (SO nice and fresh and CLEAN and pretty...!!! AND I save money with my Dominick's card!) rather than WALK here. You see that, Market Place? You're making me kill the planet! It's all your fault!!

And why is everything spoiled? Check the yogurt. Sold past date. Check the milk. Same. Produce is wilted. Ice cream is MISSING THE PROTECTIVE PLASTIC WRAP SEAL. Deli meats are served with a choice of mold, dirt or bugs. Canned goods have bug eggs on them. Ohh, I'm SCRATCHING just thinking about how nasty this place is. Yuck. I need to shower. Seriously, I'm scratching like a crackhead right now. I have PTSD from a freaking grocery store!!

You didn't hear it from me, but someone called the health department on this place. Wouldn't it be something if everyone did the same?

  1. There used to be a Dominicks on Broadway a little bit north of Diversey. It burned down. I think they're building a new one ...

  2. Right on. Thanks for the comment. I noticed that 'to be built' Dominicks sign...but I am skeptical. It's been in the process of being built for years now, no? ((shakes fist)) Chicago!!!
